Claude in Chrome is a browser extension that runs in a side panel alongside your browsing. It can read, click, navigate, and automate web pages. Key features include workflow recording (teach Claude a task once, replay it automatically), scheduled recurring tasks, multi-tab management, and an “ask before acting” safety mode. Available on Chrome only — not Edge or other Chromium browsers. Install from the Chrome Web Store.

What it does

Core features:

• Page reading and interaction — Claude sees what’s on the page and can click, type, scroll, and navigate
• Form filling — automate repetitive form submissions across web apps
• Data extraction — pull structured data from dashboards, tables, and web pages
• Multi-tab management — Claude works across multiple grouped tabs simultaneously

Automation features:

• Workflow recording — perform a browser task once while Claude watches, then replay it automatically. Significant for operators with repetitive browser workflows (expense reports, data entry, CRM updates).
• Scheduled tasks — set recurring browser tasks to run daily, weekly, or monthly. Claude executes them automatically on schedule.
• “Ask before acting” mode — Claude creates a plan and shows it to you for approval before executing. Useful when you want oversight without doing the work yourself.

Integration features:

• Claude Desktop integration — start a task in Desktop, and if it requires browser work, Claude handles it through the Chrome extension automatically
• Claude Code integration — build something in Code, test and verify it through Chrome

How to set it up

What you need

• Chrome browser (not Edge, Brave, Arc, or other Chromium browsers)
• A Claude account on Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan
• The Claude in Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store

1. Open Chrome (must be Chrome — not Edge, Brave, or other browsers)
2. Visit the Chrome Web Store → search “Claude” → Add to Chrome
3. Sign in with your Claude account
4. Pin the extension for easy access
5. Click the extension icon to open the side panel

How operators actually use it

Every Monday I need to log into three dashboards, screenshot the key metrics, and paste them into our weekly report template.

Record this workflow once. Schedule it for Monday mornings. Claude does it automatically.

Go through our Zendesk queue, categorise each open ticket by urgency, and update the priority field.

Claude opens each ticket, reads it, assesses urgency, and updates the field — across multiple tabs simultaneously.

What to watch out for

• Chrome only. Does not work on Edge, Brave, Arc, or other Chromium-based browsers.
• Pro users are limited to Haiku 4.5. This is the fastest but least capable model. For complex browser automation, Max or Team plans give you access to Opus and Sonnet.
• Some sites block extensions. Security-conscious web applications (banking, some enterprise tools) may prevent Claude from interacting with pages.
• Selecting an unsupported model disables the extension. Stick to Haiku 4.5, Sonnet 4.5, or Opus 4.6.
