Bio Research Plugin

Last verified: 13 February 2026 | Applies to: Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise

The Bio Research plugin is the most specialised of Anthropic’s 11 knowledge-work plugins — built for preclinical research, genomics analysis, and scientific literature review. It’s the only plugin targeting a specific scientific domain rather than a general business function. Most operators won’t need this; if you work in biotech, pharma, or research, it’s worth exploring.

No dedicated slash commands — the Bio Research plugin activates through natural language requests in Cowork when working with biological research content.

The Bio Research plugin’s skills cover:

  • Preclinical research tools — experimental design, protocol generation, and analysis workflows
  • Genomics analysis — sequence analysis, variant interpretation, pathway mapping
  • Literature review — systematic search, paper summarisation, evidence synthesis
  • Data interpretation — statistical analysis of experimental results, figure generation
  • Regulatory awareness — familiarity with preclinical-to-clinical translation requirements

Literature review:

Summarise the last 5 years of research on [specific gene/pathway/compound]. Identify the key findings, current consensus, and open questions. Include citations.

Experimental design:

Help me design a preclinical study for [compound] targeting [indication]. Suggest appropriate animal models, sample sizes, endpoints, and statistical methods.

Genomics:

Analyse this variant data [upload file]. Identify potentially pathogenic variants, classify by significance, and suggest follow-up studies.

Research synthesis:

I have 20 papers on [topic] [upload or describe]. Create a structured synthesis: key findings across studies, areas of agreement, contradictions, and gaps in the literature.

Who it’s best for: Biotech and pharma operators, research scientists, and lab managers who spend significant time on literature review, protocol design, and data interpretation. Most business operators can skip this plugin.
