Claude offers Free, Pro ($20/mo), Max ($100-200/mo), Team ($25-125/mo per seat), and Enterprise (custom pricing, minimum 20 seats, annual billing) plans. The right choice depends on whether you need Cowork, which model you want in Claude in Chrome, and whether you’re deploying for a team. Most solo operators land on Pro. Teams that need governance and admin controls should look at Team or Enterprise.

Understanding Team seats

Team plans have two seat types:

  • Standard seats ($25/mo per seat): 1.25x Pro usage. Includes Claude Code. Good for team members who use Claude regularly.
  • Premium seats ($125/mo per seat): 6.25x Pro usage. Includes Claude Code. For power users who need significantly higher usage volume.

Annual billing reduces costs significantly: Pro $17/mo, Standard $20/mo, Premium $100/mo.

This matters because you can mix seat types. Put your heaviest users on Premium for the higher usage allowance and keep everyone else on Standard to manage costs.

Choose Free if:

  • You’re evaluating Claude for the first time
  • You need chat with skills, directory connectors, and Memory
  • You don’t need Cowork, plugins, or browser automation

Choose Pro if:

  • You’re a solo operator who wants the full platform
  • You need Cowork for autonomous tasks and plugins for domain expertise
  • You can work with Haiku 4.5 in Claude in Chrome (it’s fast but less capable)
  • Budget: $20/month is manageable

Choose Max if:

  • You’re a power user hitting Pro’s usage limits
  • You need Opus 4.6 or Sonnet 4.5 in Claude in Chrome for complex browser automation (Chrome has not yet been updated to Sonnet 4.6)
  • You need extended context windows for processing long documents
  • Budget: $100-200/month depending on tier

Choose Team if:

  • You’re deploying Claude across a team and need admin controls
  • You need to manage who has access to what
  • You want to provision plugins and skills org-wide
  • Mix Standard and Premium seats to manage costs

Choose Enterprise if:

  • You need SCIM provisioning and centralised user lifecycle management
  • You require audit logs and compliance controls
  • You have specific data handling or security requirements
  • Self-serve sign-up with a minimum of 20 seats (annual billing)

What operators actually pay

Solo operator on Pro: $20/month. Access to everything except extended context and Chrome with Opus/Sonnet. This covers most operators’ needs.

Small team (5 people) on Team: 3 Standard seats ($75/mo) + 2 Premium seats ($250/mo) = $325/month total. Everyone gets Claude Code; Premium users get 6.25x the usage volume for heavier workloads.

Cost consideration for Cowork: Cowork sessions consume significantly more of your plan’s usage allocation than standard chat. A complex multi-step task may consume 5-10x what the same work would cost in chat. On Pro, plan your Cowork usage accordingly. You may hit limits mid-month on intensive weeks.
